Okay, I won’t deny that the real reason I wanted to try the new Ultraflesh Panthera Mascara ($26) is because of tube. I don’t know if Ultraflesh designed it with cat ladies in mind, but it sure as heck worked on me.

The product is currently Ultraflesh’s (seriously, what’s up with that name?) one and only item, which I guess we could say recently “pounced” on the makeup scene, LOL! For now it’s available exclusively at Sephora.

It doesn’t have anything to do with mascara, but neither do panthers, so whatever, right?

It’s must be a color thing (panthers = black, like the mascara). That, or maybe someone at Ultraflesh really liked Thundercats.
The company claims, although not in feline terms, that Panthera is a cat of all trades, addressing most of the major mascara desirables like length, volume, definition and…
Like real panthers, the one attached to the end of this tube should be handled with care. It actually kinda hurts! I keep poking my fingers with its pointy little ears… It’s a little annoying, but I bet it could double as a weapon in a pinch.
The brush head, which takes a little getting used to (I almost poked my eye out with it!), sports skinny, sparse bristles, short and stubby on one side for building volume, and longer, more comb-like bristles on the other side for enhancing length and definition. I started out convinced I’d hate the brush, but it grew on me after a while.
Together with the mascara itself, they’re a winning combination, delivering terrific length, lash lift, curl hold (all day) and separation, as well as pretty good volume (it’s not quite as volumizing as YSL faux Cils). After two or three coats, this stuff make lashes look almost like falsies.
It also hasn’t smudged or flaked at all, and, as if that’s not already amazing enough, it leaves my lashes feeling soft as a panther’s bottom.
Panthera’s way with length, lash lift and separation totally reminds me of a much more expensive version of Rimmel Glam Eyes Lash Flirt ($7). That mascara’s a steal for $7, but Panthera ups the ante by eliminating smudges and flakes.
I haven’t used this long enough to see if it really grows lashes (hmm…), but if I discover an extra millimeter or two, I’ll let you know.
For $16, Panthera would be one of my favorite mascaras of all time, but for $26 it’s still quite good.
